E-Cigarettes - The Smoker's Green Solution
With all the arguing going on about whether e-cigarettes are safe or not, we've stopped to ask the question "are they green"?
GAINESVILLE, FL, April 14, 2009 /24-7PressRelease/ -- The many attributes of the e cigarette just start to look better and better every time it provokes a discussion about their benefits. They first came onto the market with rave reviews and great opinions from smokers and many doctors from highly respectable schools and practices across the world. Even people from the world health organization stated that "WHO does not discount the possibility that the electronic cigarette could be useful as a smoking cessation aid. The only way to know is to test."
People are only recently beginning to realize just how green e-cigarettes are. With re-chargeable batteries, they take a bite out of the wasteful regular tobacco cigarette. Next is that there are thousands less chemicals being put into the air, which helps improve air quality, which is a big green plus for the e-cig compared to the regular tobacco based products. There is also the amount of trees harvested every year to produce the paper used to wrap the tobacco to be considered.
The pulp and paper industry is the 3rd largest industrial polluter - 220 million pounds of toxic pollution into air and water each year, and the e cigarette industry hopes to take a bite out of that number since regular cigarettes are a total waste because the paper is burnt and obviously cannot be recycled.
Cigarette butts also account for an astounding amount of litter across the United States. The figures from the State of Texas alone gives astronomical numbers: "Each year more than 1 billion pieces of litter will accumulate on Texas highways. Of those, 13 percent are cigarette butts. That means 130 million butts will be tossed out in Texas alone this year." --Texas Department of Transportation.
Tossing cigarette butts out the windows of vehicles also has a tendency to cause wildfires, but since the e-cigarette uses a battery instead of a flame, it could drastically reduce the amount of accidental fires both indoors and outdoors.
Is there any wonder that the e-cigarette is gaining in popularity despite the negative campaigns of the special interest groups opposing the new wonder?
