The Internet's Global Warming Clock winds up and starts ticking.
In a project reminiscent of the 'Doomsday Clock' attorney/author, Steven Paul Mark, has begun the 'Global Warming Clock.' Whereas the former measures humankind's proximity to nuclear annihilation, the Global Warming Clock will alert humanity to a slower, but nevertheless certain, self-destruction.

The clock, however, stands alone as a reminder to all that it is late, very late, and that individuals and nations must take immediate steps to move the Global Warming Clock's minute hand away from Midnight. Each week, the web page will highlight Internet articles about Global Warming. If the preponderance of news is positive, the minute hand will move away from Midnight; if the news is bad, the minute hand moves ever closer. Mark added, "when I was a kid our culture was consumed by the fear over a nuclear war between the Soviet Union and the US. Today, we're finally realizing that the end of civilization could come, as T.S. Eliot might write if he were alive, 'not with a bang, but a whimpering cough and agonizing heat.'"

In addition to the articles that will move the clock closer to or farther from Midnight, the web page will include links to articles that present evidence of Global Warming and a celebrity roster of environmental proponents.

The causes of Global Warming are still being debated among scientists and politicians but clear and convincing evidence shows that worldwide average temperatures have steadily risen over the past 100 years. Whether the cause is man-made from pollution, deforestation and other intemperate actions or natural from continental drift, sea level or climate change, everyone can make a contribution, no matter how small, to help.
